#24-From River to Ocean/ Du fleuve à l’océan
I hope you enjoyed the holidays, and that the reunion with family and friends was harmonious and beneficial.
After a few days' rest, I'm back in my studio room.With the New Year, I'm getting down to the nitty-gritty of preparing for my three exhibitions this spring. The one in Nantes starts in 10 weeks and I've got plenty of time, but I don't like last-minute work that stresses me out.

Après quelques jours de repos, me revoilà dans ma chambre-atelier. Avec la nouvelle année, je m’attelle à la préparation concrète de mes trois expositions ce printemps. Celle de Nantes commence dans 10 semaines et j’ai le temps, mais je n’aime pas le travail de dernière minute qui me stresse.
What does one need to prepare an exhibition? You need a certain number of paintings to hang, of course, but you also need to... fill out some paperwork, sign a contract with the gallery, make a list of the paintings, their dimensions and prices.
You also have to write a short biography, prepare the name cards with the titles of the works, and write an introduction explaining the exhibition.
You need to draw up a hanging plan: how many walls and meters are available? Which painting will fit on which wall? Which will be its neighbors, according to size and dominant color? (below are the plans of the showroom I was offered in Delaware)
Que faut-il pour préparer une expo: Il faut bien sûr un certain nombre de tableaux à accrocher, mais il faut aussi… remplir des papiers, signer un contrat avec la galerie, faire une liste des tableaux, de leurs dimensions et de leurs prix.
Il faut également écrire une courte biographie, préparer les bristols avec les titres des œuvres, écrire une introduction explicative de l’exposition.
Il faut préparer un plan d’accrochage : combien de murs et de mètres à disposition? quel tableau rentre sur quel mur? quels seront ses voisins, en fonction de la taille et de la couleur dominante? (ci dessous les plans de la salle d’exposition qui m’a été proposée dans le Delaware)
And since my sister has written short texts for each of the cathedrals, I also need to have them printed so that I can hang them with the paintings. Some visitors will read them, others will pass by without seeing them, or choose not to be influenced by the text.
Et puis comme ma sœur a écrit des petits textes pour chacune des cathédrales, il me faut également les faire imprimer afin de pouvoir les accrocher avec les tableaux. Certains visiteurs les liront, d’autres passeront sans les voir ou bien feront le choix de ne pas se laisser influencer par le texte.
I now have enough ocean-themed paintings for the May exhibit in Delaware. Before Christmas, I showed you "Dawn on the Sea." in progress, it’s now quilted
I also finished 3 new paintings depicting the sea or ocean.
J’ai maintenant assez de tableaux sur le thème de l’océan pour l’exposition de mai dans le Delaware. Avant Noël, je vous avais montré le début de “Aube sur la mer”. Il est maintenant terminé.
J’ai aussi mené à terme 3 nouveaux tableaux représentant la mer ou l’océan.
Given the size of the showroom at my disposal in Delaware, I need to create one last large painting. I've been working on it for three weeks. I hope to finish it before the end of the month.
Vu la taille de la salle d’exposition mise à ma disposition dans le Delaware, il me faut créer un dernier grand tableau. Je suis en train de peiner dessus depuis trois semaines mais j’espère le terminer avant la fin du mois.
